The Centenarian Project
The Centenarian Project is a photography project documenting centenarians(people aged 100 or older) in Calhoun County Michigan. Every year a new group of our elder reached this incredible milestone, and this these portraits represent a chance to celebrate and learn from “the greatest generation”.
For many people, reaching 100 years of age is an accomplishment. In reality, this milestone is much more complicated. The result is a body for work that is both inspiring and unsettling, uplifting and overwhelming. Like the lives of the centenarians, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Many of these subject are still alive today, some have already passed on, these being one of the final photos of their life.
These portraits represent lives lived fully. By creating this collection we hope to facilitate a a conversation of what it means to be human.
